Hi, my name is Josie Chaves and I am the founder of Bedda. Bedda is a Sicilian-Italian word that means "beautiful." Growing up in a Canadian-Sicilian home, "bedda" was how my mom poured love into every conversation — calling us bedda or beddu, reminding us that we were beautiful, inside and out. She had this gift for seeing the beauty in others, even when they couldn't see it in themselves.
When she passed away at 69, I lost my best friend. So much of my youth was spent by her bedside — caring for her through years of illness, yet watching her face light up as I massaged her hands and feet with lotion. It was these small comforts in her time of pain, that meant everything to the both of us. Her strength, her softness, and her endless love became the foundation of who I am.
Now, as a mother to three beautiful — "bedde" — children, I often think of her. My youngest child has special needs, and at times I carry the quiet fear of chronic illness repeating itself. But that fear has become my drive — to live better, to be better, and to finally break the cycle of chronic illness once and for all.
Through her lessons, I learned how much of what we put in and on our bodies matters. That's why I created Bedda — a line of gentle, non-toxic products that heal, nurture, and celebrate our natural beauty — all while feeling luxuriously pampered. It's my way of honoring my mother's legacy, her love, and the healing moments we shared.
